Inside H&H
H&H is home to advanced aluminum casting technology. From time-tested metal pouring, to cutting-edge pattern making, H&H boasts an unrivaled collection of aluminum machinery and talent.
Automatic molding
The green sand molding operation is powered by Robert Sinto FBO automatic molding machines. Sinto FBO molding machines allow for adjustable height molds and maintain consistency from mold to mold. H&H Castings introduced automatic molding over 25 years ago and are proud to add the newest FBO V to our production line. Total capacity between all three machines exceeds 1500 molds daily.
Sinto FBO II (FBO 2):
16x20” mold size, 5” - 8” mold height from cope,
5” - 8” mold height to drag
Sinto FBO III (FBO 3):
20x24” mold size, 5” - 8” mold height from cope,
5” - 8” mold height to drag
Sinto FBO V (FBO 5):
32x32” mold size, 11” mold height from cope,
14" mold height to drag
Next gen molding: Sinto FBO V
32” X 32” AUTOMATIC MOLDING
H&H’s most recent molding machine addition is the exceptional, Robert Sinto FBO V. This flaskless molding machine offers a wide variety of molding dimensions to accommodate a wide range of requests. Its precision and quality is peerless in the industry and it is proudly featured within the foundry’s automatic lineup.
MOLD SIZE: 32” X 32” (812.8 MM X 821.8 MM)
MOLD HEIGHT (FROM COPE): 11” (280 MM)
MOLD HEIGHT (TO DRAG): 14” (355 MM)
MOLD RATE (NO CORE): 80/HR
A year at H&H.
H&H has been providing careers for workers from York county and beyond for half a century.
The furnaces at H&H process roughly 2 million pounds of aluminum a year.
The team at H&H work tirelessly to produce over 1,000,000 castings annually.
Core creation
Most castings start with a core. The experienced core department at H&H is capable of producing cores of various size, shape, and complexity. Cores are created with either conventional shell core manufacturing or No-Bake molding. Our shell core machine list consists of:
Dependable 100SA, 200SA, 400SA
Redford HS12, HS14, HS16
Shalco U180
No-Bake core technology allows H&H to make cores outside the size restraints of a conventional machine, providing larger flexibility in design and production. Our No-Bake core production is powered by a Tinker Omega PLC controlled mixer with output of 750 lbs/min.
No-Bake molding
No-Bake technology was added in 2008 to keep up with growing demand for large scale aluminum castings. The 180 ton sand system can provide sufficient materials to handle castings over 10 feet in length and over 300 finished pounds.
State of the art reclaimers
Installed in 2018 and built custom by Tinker Omega, the sand reclamation system is capable of mechanically processing 20 tons of sand per hour and thermally processing 10 tons per hour, keeping the department ahead of demand.
2 molding lines
No-Bake is sufficiently set up to handle any production demand with two 750 lb. Tinker Omega PLC driven mixers. Size restraints in No-Bake are essentially non-existent.
ISO certified
H&H Castings is ISO 9001:2015 certified. These capabilities allow H&H to satisfy nearly all customer needs in-house for sand castings ranging in size from ounces to 300 pounds. Casting tolerances of +/-.020" are routine. Tolerances of +/-.010 can be attained with fully CNC machined tooling. Typical castings are housings, regulators, valves, complex parts with internally cored passageways requiring good dimensional control and fine surface finish (150 RMS to 300 RMS).
Alloy melting
The melt department is powered by Striko Westofen furnaces hand built in Germany specifically for H&H Castings. Striko Westofen furnaces are well regarded for their stability and operational efficiencies.
The furnaces currently experience less than 1% downtime annually. Capabilities across all furnaces exceed 60,000 lbs. of aluminum per shift.
H&H proudly uses:
2 Striko Dynarad Continuous Stack Melters
3 Striko Dynarad Crucible Furnaces
2 Striko Dynarad Crucible Ladles
Common alloys are:
319, 356, 443, 535, 713, and 771 (with capabilities to accommodate other requests).
360° capabilities, start to finish.
In-house
pattern shop
Powered by Haas VF9 and Haas VM3 CNC machines. The Haas VF9 has a travel range of 84” x 40” x 30”. We have the capability to cut aluminum, cast iron, and urethane tooling board. We are actively quoting new tooling work.
Pattern modifications
Many patterns can be modified to run on one of our three Sinto molding machines (FBO II, III, V) allowing older squeeze-box and Roto-lift patterns to be converted to automatic molding adapted for higher production rates. Modifications include match plates, cope and drag, and core boxes. Our pattern shop is well equipped to make transferring existing tooling to H&H. We proudly use SolidWorks in our pattern shop.
